36th BRIT Awards to take place next month

With just over a month left until the BRIT Awards 2016, the nominations are in and it’s no surprise to hear that Adele leads the way with four nominations.Adele

Another front runner in terms of nominations is James Bay, who also has four nominations, after exploding onto the scene this year. Mr Bay will fight for the Best Male Solo Artist honour against Calvin Harris, Jamie XX, Mark Ronson and Aphex Twin. He is also up for best British Single, British Album of the Year and of course, British Breakthrough Act.

For Adele, she’ll be facing the mighty Florence + The Machine, Jess Glynee, Laura Marling, and the
late Amy Whinehouse for the Best Female Solo Artist award.

It’s set to have an emotional feel to parts of the night, with “The Eagles of Death Metal” up for international awards. The band were tragically caught up in the Paris terror attack in late 2015 which saw over 100 people killed. A tribute to David Bowie, who passed away sadly last week, will also take place on the night.

Other international superstars up for awards include Drake, The Weeknd, Lana Del Ray, U2 and Justin Beiber, who has had a monster of a year, turning half of the British population into “Belieber’s”.

Nominees for Best British Group go to Blur, Coldplay, Foals, One Direction and Years & Years. London electronica group Years & Years have been a breakthrough success this year, and their single ‘King’ is also up for Best British Single. However, it’ll have to beat off tough competition in Jess Glyne, Olly Murs and Ed Sheeran.

The up and coming BRIT Awards will take place at The O2 Arena in London on February 24th. You can get a full list of the awards on offer and who’s up for them, as well as casting your own vote for a couple of categories, at the BRIT awards official site.
